August 5 So. Shore of Eastern Coast and Charlottetown

This was the second time we came to check out the Old General Store.  The first day it was closed, even though the hours posted said it would be open.  We asked a neighbor when they'd be open and she said "whenever they decide to arrive, it will be open".  The shop was full of beautiful quilts and handmade items from local artisans.

Just love all the murals on the buildings.  They depict so much of the history of the area.

This Marconi Station was the first one to receive the distress signal from the Titanic.

See that one house in the top left.  Just to give you an idea of how sparse the population is.

I know there are a lot of shots of the farm land, but each day we saw one incredible place after another and I just loved the contrast in colors.

We stopped at Rossignol Winery and Fred saw our friend Burley's twin.  Had to give him a quick rub.

A PEI Christmas Tree

Cows ice cream is VERY BIG in PEI.  We came to Charlottetown twice, but after touring the Coastal Route, by the time we got to town it was already getting late.  We did a quick walk-about to get the lay of the land, but promised ourselves a longer visit before we left.  It's a lovely "City" and it's actually "the Birthplace of Canada".  Wonderful history here.

The roads are pretty darned straight when you are not ON the Coastal Route.  Here you can see how hilly the countryside is.  The rolling hills are just magnificent.   I often take photos of the roads we travel.  We spend a lot of time driving, but the journey getting "there" is half the fun.  I sit with the camera in my lap and take photos going 50 or 60 miles an hour, but it keeps me awake (being a passenger for 6 hours a day could put me right to sleep!) and encourages me to really "see" where we are going.
