August 2, 3 and 4 Update from Prince Edward Island

August 2: We had a nice drive over to Seafoam, Nova Scotia and by luck found an RV park RIGHT ON the water with fabulous view to Prince Edward Island.  Luckily for us we stopped at the Ferry first to find about reservations and learned you couldn't make them.  They suggested we show up at 6AM, get in line and hope for the best.  Just down the road from the campground was a lovely Lilac Farm.  We spent some time wandering around there as they were all in bloom.  The last Lilac Farm we were at was on Washington Island and it was too early so nothing was in bloom.  Interesting that they have no smell until they are processed.  Fred got some wonderful shaving soap and I got Lilac Sea Salt which turns out to be an absolutely wonderful spice for cooking.

They are down to just one ferry and it is causing havoc for the businesses on the East End of PEI.  Especially since RV's can't make a reservation and it's possible you could sit all day in the parking lot waiting to get on.  Locals who go to PEI for the weekend or for holiday will drive over to the Confederation Bridge which brings them to Central PEI and they end up staying there.  Same for many tourists.  At Seal Cove RV, our PEI campground their business is down almost 50%!

August 3: Our luck just continues to hold as we got on the first ferry to PEI.  We were the last motor home to get on.  More luck, we got in to a FABULOUS RV Park and since we are staying a week they gave us a lovely sight right on the bay.

What a view!

Those white dots in the water are buoys for the mussels farmed in that area.  Fred just loved this little boat.  It really flew across the water with it's flat bottom.  Every afternoon when the tide was in kids took off in it and just had a blast skimming across the water.  This campground is very family oriented, lots for kids to do and the majority of sites are Seasonal so the kids have made friends.  It reminded Fred of his summers at the Cape.
