September 17 Update from the 5th to today

Whoops, we are definitely having way too much fun.  I have managed to fall way behind again with the blog.  So frustrating when I realize I'm this far behind.  I'll try and do a quick update on where we've been and what we've been up to and hopefully later today get some pictures uploaded.
Sept. 5 we left the RV at David and Elisa's and drove up to Auburn to see my cousins Jim and Sue.  They were having a family BBQ and the boys and their families were all going to be there so we changed plans and drove up.  So good to see everyone all at one time and get caught up with all of them.  The get-together lasted well in to the evening so that's as far as we got.
Sept. 6 on the return from Auburn we stopped in Portland for a quick visit with my Aunt Vassar.  She looks great and it was good to see her, even for just a short time.
Sept. 7 we got the RV ready to hit the road again, spent time with David, Elisa and kids on their boat and had dinner at the Wentworth at their outdoor restaurant.  So nice to be on the water in the early evening.
Sept. 8 we left the RV at David's one more time and drove down to Rockport, MA to see Motif #1 in real life.  We have the painting at home and I wanted to see it for real.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day.  We took the scenic route through some of the oldest towns in America.  It was an amazing ride!  From their we drove to Saugus and had dinner with Fred's cousin Roger.  It was so nice to see him again.
Sept. 9 we hit the road again and moved down to Mashpee, MA on the Cape.  Fred's cousins Bev and Ed live in a great central location for touring the Cape and we could park the RV in their front yard.  They have been fabulous about showing us around the Cape and Fred and I both have enjoyed catching up on some old Family history.
Sept. 10 Bev and Ed took us on a tour of Hyannis area.  It was very moving to see the Kennedy Memorial and see places I had only seen on the news.  These New England towns are so BEAUTIFUL!   The homes are grand and the gardens spectacular.
Sept. 11 turned out to be one of the nicest birthdays I have had in many years.  The four of us took the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard.  Again, Bev and Ed gave us the grand tour of places we had read about and always hoped to see.  We tried to look up another long lost cousin of Fred's, but hard as we tried we could not locate the last address we had.  After dinner Bev surprised me with a birthday cake and Ed gave me a whole bag of sea glass!   It was a moving end to a super, fantastic year.  Turning 70 was not painful at all.
Septs. 12 we drove down to Provincetown taking the scenic route 6A.  On the way we called Duane and Mary Jo to let them know we would be in town and they invited us to stay with them.  It was a wonderful visit and great time to play "catch up" with them as well.
Sept. 13 we did a walking tour of Provincetown and then a drive where Fred showed me all his old haunts.
Sept. 14 Fred, Mary Jo and I climbed the Monument!  After much huffing and puffing on Fred and my part we had a fabulous view of Provincetown and the Harbor.  From there we went on a Whale watch.  OMG it was the most amazing time.  There were about 20 whales feeding and I got some awesome pictures.  It was incredibly exciting.  We almost didn't go because the last two watches we went on were disappointing, but Mary Jo had a free pass for 2 so off we went.  We talked her in to joining us, turns out she hadn't been on a whale watch in years.  One of her cousins actually started the whale watching tours in PTown years ago.  The weather was spectacular and with the successful whale show it was a day we will long remember!
Sept. 15 we headed back to Mashpee, but again taking the scenic route that took all day to get there.
Sept. 16 Fred and I took the ferry over to Nantucket.  Boy, talk about a place for the rich and famous!  To say nothing of the amazing history and gorgeous homes.  We took a tour with a lady who was 11th generation Nantucket resident!  The morning started cool and felt very Fall like, but by the time we got to the island it was actually hot.  Just another magnificent day in paradise.  The average sale of a home on Nantucket was 2.1 million.  We were thinking Sanibel and Captiva are pretty "high end", but obviously this is where the other half live.  The hardware, lumber and Marine store actually fly their employees over because it's cheaper than trying to find them a place to stay on island.  They also will fly any island resident to the mainland for any cancer treatments needed, for free.
Sept 17...today...we will spend the day getting the RV ready to head out again.  Tomorrow is blast off for the last leg of our journey.  It's kind of sad to realize this incredible journey is coming to an end.  It's been the most amazing adventure we could have imagined.  We've touched base with friends and family, we've seen places and done things we'd only dreamed of.  The RV has been a wonderful little home for us and having the car has made the exploration of far off places so much easier and accessible.  When we get home we'll do the tally of how many miles and how much it cost, but no matter the price it was well worth it to us.  I know without the tally it was less than I had expected and saved for so that's something.  Of course having the house rented while we were away was an amazing blessing as Merrill and Janet were wonderful about keeping us updated and taking care of our home.  They will be moving in to their newly renovated home just as we are returning so that worked out well for them too.  We hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
