It was with great reluctance that we left Door County and continued on our journey. We have both agreed that of all the places we have visited since buying Barefoot the two places we'd come back to and spend at LEAST a month would be Utah and Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been such a beautiful place to explore. We loved our time with Cyndie, Neal and the kids and the area they have settled in is incredibly beautiful. The towns are quaint and full of meticulously maintained vintage homes and estates with magnificent gardens. The countryside is farm country and every road full of treasures at every turn. Door County, with it's 250 miles of shore line is dotted with lighthouses, inter-spaced with charming little villages at every turn. There are 5 State Parks. Truly a photographers delight. Each Village offers something unique or special to explore, eat or drink. We gave it our best shot, but we really needed more time. As I said, it's one of those places you want to come to and just stay and explore. Actually we saw this little red cottage on the bay at Bailey's Harbor that needed a little TLC for sale. Fred was already planning the "remodel" until I pulled up the sales price on Realtor.com. Oops....maybe not. There are quaint lighthouses, amazing gardens, beautiful marinas, old barns, big farms, orchards and unique shops that just beg you to stop, look and enjoy. To say nothing of amazing foods! If you are looking for a place to go in May/June (before traffic becomes a nightmare) we would highly recommend you spend some time in Door County and or Lake Geneva.
We are in Michigan now. Yesterday we left the RV and took a drive up to Lake Superior. Today we drove to St. Ignace, MI where we will stay two or three days, at least. Due to have some rain tomorrow so will postpone the trip over to Mackinaw Island. The manager here at the RV Park suggested a ride north to Tahquamenon Falls (almost as big as Niagra) and to the Soo Locks.
